Neil Young: We, the undersigned, implore you to cancel your concert in Israel planned for this summer<\/strong>, and to refrain from booking further concerts in Israel until it complies fully with the demands of the international BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign.\u00a0 By doing so, you will be supporting the human rights of the Palestinian people, and hastening a just and peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.<\/p>\n

Like many Canadians and fans internationally, CJPME was extremely surprised and disappointed when anIsraeli promoter announced that Neil Young<\/a>\u00a0was scheduled to play a concert in Israel in July 2014.\u00a0 Given Mr. Young’s progressive stances on many other issues, including\u00a0his very recent and public support of Canadian First Nations peoples<\/a>, his decision to perform in Israel is very perplexing.<\/p>\n

In 2005, a coalition of over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations launched a\u00a0campaign calling the international community to boycott Israel culturally, academically, and commercially<\/a>.\u00a0 As conceived, the boycott will end when Israel recognizes the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and fully complies with international law in Israel and in the Palestinian territories it currently occupies illegally.\u00a0 Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Vanessa Paradis, Gil Scott-Heron and many other performing artists cancelled their performances in Israel in respect for this call.<\/p>\n
