Actor, Scarlett Johansson, is currently an\u00a0Ambassador for Oxfam<\/a>\u00a0but has just signed up to promote Sodastream.<\/p>\n

Sodastream\u2019s main factory is in a settlement \u2013\u00a0Ma\u2019ale Adumim \u00a0\u2013 in the Occupied West Bank. These settlements are illegal under international law, and an obstacle to peace \u2013 therefore settlement production relies on, and supports, an activity that is illegal.<\/p>\n

In response to letters sent far, the Oxfam CEO Mark Goldring has stated \u00a0that Oxfam \u00a0\u201dis opposed to trade from Israeli settlements, in which Sodastream is engaged. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and have a devastating effect on the lives and livelihoods of the Palestinian communities that Oxfam works with. Trade with businesses operating in settlements exacerbates the ongoing poverty and denial of Palestinians\u2019 rights that Oxfam addresses in its work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Significantly, he states that Oxfam \u201care now engaged in a dialogue with Scarlett Johansson on these important issues\u201d.<\/p>\n
